Release Notes - April 2025

Modified on Mon, 5 Oct at 2:03 PM

April was about precision and reliability. Internal Entity Linking returned on a new, dedicated entity linking service with smarter type matching, the Highlighter Extension gained room for more deployment patterns and smoother highlighting workflows, and Deployment Monitoring became more dependable for JavaScript-delivered markup and shared templates. The platform vocabulary also moved to Schema.org version 29.1.

Internal Entity Linking, Rebuilt and Re-enabled

Internal Entity Linking connects the people, places, products, and topics mentioned in your content to the entities already defined in your own knowledge graph. This month, Linked Entity Recognition moved to a new, dedicated entity linking service, and Internal Entity Linking has been re-enabled on top of it. Type matching is now more precise, so each mention is linked to an entity of the appropriate type. Entity linking tags are also simpler to set up, since a target value is now optional for both internal and external entity linking. The result is richer, more connected Schema Markup that helps search engines and AI systems understand how the topics on your site relate to one another.

Highlighter Extension: More Room to Grow and Smoother Highlighting

Templates in the Highlighter Extension now support up to 125 deployment patterns, matching the original Highlighter. Click to Highlight works smoothly when you add an additional field type, and you can now override the manual XPath for highlights inside subtemplates. Linked Data Items are displayed by their name, so they are easy to recognize at a glance. When you add a page set with deployment patterns, markup now publishes to the matching pages automatically. Behind the scenes, content filters containing unusual punctuation are evaluated correctly, and the mentions property is included in your markup only when there are entities to reference, keeping your markup clean and accurate.

More Dependable Deployment Monitoring

Our crawler now waits intelligently for Schema App's JavaScript to finish running before it captures a page, so pages that receive their markup through JavaScript are scanned consistently and scans complete reliably. Domain matching is also stricter, so monitoring results for shared templates accurately reflect the domains that belong to each account. The "Deployed URLs in the last 30 days" list loads reliably, and the page count view on the Highlighter Overview page displays correctly.

Other Improvements at Schema App

  • Schema.org 29.1: the platform now supports the latest Schema.org vocabulary, versions 29.0 and 29.1, so you can take advantage of the newest types and properties as soon as they are available.
  • Editor refinements: data items in the Editor are displayed by their name, the Type field is available in the Entity Manager, and text fields display at their full width. Removing a field preserves the rest of the item's data, validation for Dataset items shows only relevant and accurate guidance, and Editor markup deploys as expected after an account ID is updated.
  • Entity Hub and Search Performance Analytics: Entity View reports now consistently return your results, and revoking a Google Search Console connection in Search Performance Analytics completes correctly, keeping your performance data complete and accurate.
  • Smoother Shopify and WordPress integrations: the Schema App app for Shopify loads faster and runs more smoothly, the post-installation message clears promptly, product images are captured correctly for markup, and stores stay fully connected when changing plans. The Schema App WordPress plugin (version 2.2.6) also handles pages without associated post data gracefully.
  • Clearer error messages: if a request takes too long to complete, you now see a clear, user-friendly message with helpful context.
  • Security and reliability: we continued our enhanced security work across the platform, upgraded core platform components, and made routine data model enhancements behind the scenes.

In Brief

April 2025 focused on precision and dependability. Internal Entity Linking is re-enabled on a new entity linking service with more precise type matching and simpler tag setup. The Highlighter Extension now supports up to 125 deployment patterns, smoother Click to Highlight and subtemplate XPath workflows, name-based display of Linked Data Items, and automatic publishing when page sets are added. Deployment Monitoring scans JavaScript-delivered markup consistently and matches domains accurately for shared templates. The Editor, Entity Hub, Search Performance Analytics, and our Shopify and WordPress integrations all received accuracy and reliability improvements, and the platform now supports Schema.org 29.1.
