Glossary of Terms & Titles on Page Level Dashboards: Time Periods Comparison

Modified on Tue, 6 Aug at 3:37 PM

This document describes key terms in the Page Level dashboard, Tab 5:  Time Periods Comparisons. This tab has controls that allows dynamic selection of input data including selection of 2 sets of dates to compare data between these periods.

Controls

Date Range:

On most sections, there will be a Start Date and End Date. In the Performance Review section there will be 2 sets of start and end dates for both periods.

Search Type:

This refers to the different types of media in search (e.g. Web, Image, etc). The default/recommended value: is 'Select All'. Note that GSC segments performance metrics by search type with no option to "Select All".

Search Appearance:

A list of all Search appearances. The data shown will be based on the specific Search Appearance selected. The default selection is 'All Search Features'. You can also select multiple search appearances.

Note: Selecting "All Search Features" and another, specific feature will result in double counting of that additional search feature. When reviewing specific features, we recommend de-selecting the "All Search Features" option.

URLs Containing:

Input a string and/or characters to filter specific URLs with that pattern.

Exact Match:

Input multiple specific URLs separated by commas to see corresponding data for these URLs. There is no limit to the number of URLs that can be added.

Wildcard Match

Use wildcards to search patterns in URLs and see data based on the URL patterns.  See below:

  • * - Use an asterisk symbol to search for values that match zero to many characters in a specific position.
  • ? - Use a question mark to match a single character in a specific position.
  • \ - Use a backslash to escape the *, ?, or \ wildcard characters and search for them in your query. For example, you can search for phrases that end with a question mark.

Note: Wildcard match requires that the namespace, subdomain, domain, and top level domain are all specified. For example, https://support.schemaapp.com/a/solutions/*/ would return a list of valid results but /a/solutions/*/ would not.

Example WildcardExpected Match
al
This query searches for all values with al and returns Alabama, Alaska, and California.
al*

*ia
This query searches for all values that begin with zero to multiple characters and end with letters ia. It returns California, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

*al*
This query searches for all values with zero to multiple characters before and after the letters al. It returns Alabama, Alaska, and California

a?a?a?a
This query searches for all values with a single character in the exact positions between the a letters. It returns Alabama
a?a*a
This query searches for all values with a single character between the first two a letters and multiple characters between the second two a letters. It returns Alabama and Alaska.
\**
This query searches for values that begin with an asterisk and are followed by zero to multiple characters. The backslash (\) in this query informs QuickSight to search for an actual asterisk in the values, rather than use the asterisk symbol as a wildcard character. This query returns values such as *all, *above, and *below

URL Not Containing:

Input a string and/or characters to filter out, exclude URLs with that pattern.

Exclusion Match:

Exclusion Wildcard

Use wildcards to search patterns in URLs and exclude data based on the URL patterns.
