Purpose: To provide detailed directions on applying Clip markup to individual How-to steps through the Schema App Editor.
Goal: The goal of this document is to enable users to apply Clip markup to individual How-to steps in order to take advantage of identifying specific times for each How-to step in a linked Video object.
Resources Required:

- Eligible How-to content
- Eligible Video object
- Google's How-to rich result with Video Feature Guide
Process:
- Create a How To data item with, using the target page with video, as the URI
- Type a Step Name in the Step Required Field
- Click Convert To Data Item...
- Set the Type to How to step and click +Create
- Include the How to step text in the Text Required Field and detail
- Include any additional details in the Recommended Fields, e.g. Image
- Type a Video Name in the Video Recommended Field that will be used to identify the associated How to step Clip
- Click Convert To Data Item...
- Set the Type to Clip and click +Create
- Type the start time of the clip in the Start Offset Required Field. This value will be in seconds.
- Add the Video Object's URL with specified start time in the Url Required Field.
- Expand the Recommend Fields and type the end time of the click in the End Offset Recommended Field. This value will be in seconds.
- NOTE: Though this is a Recommended Field, an Error will be presented in the Rich Results Test without it
- Include any additional details in the Recommended Fields, e.g. Description
- Click Done
- Click Done
- Click the Blue Plus Button (+) to the right of the Step field to create an additional Step
- Repeat Steps 2 - 16 for all remaining How-to steps with Clips
- Include any additional details in the Recommended Fields, e.g. Description and/or Image to the How to data item
- Include a name for the full Video Object in the Video Recommended Fields
- Click Convert To Data Item...
- Include all Required Fields for the Video Object, including Description, Thumbnail Url, and Upload Date
- Include any Recommended Fields for the Video Object, including Content Url and Duration
- Click Done
- Click Test>Rich Results Tool to confirm Rich Result Eligibility
Notes:
- It is beneficial to have all the associated time stamps recorded in a separate document for ease of copying and pasting details into the various data items to be created
- As above, End Offset is required to avoid errors in creating the Clip markup
- The above link to Google's Structured Data Guidelines offers clarity on the structure of the markup - it's a best practice document and is worthwhile reviewing to ensure all the required content exists on the targeted URL
